Enotourism

In Galicia, there is a strong emphasis on wine culture and it is gaining increasing importance. We have five Designations of Origin: Rías Baixas, Ribeiro, Valdeorras, Ribeira Sacra and Monterrei. The oldest designation was recognized in 1932 (Ribeiro)and the most recent one in 1997 (Ribeira Sacra). It’s worth noting that winemaking has been practiced in this region for over two thousand years! We also have four Protected Geographical Indications: Viños da Terra (Betanzos, Barbanza-Iria, Ribeiros do Morrazo and Val do Miño-Ourense). We can proudly say that we have over 20 varieties of native grapes, which, with time and appreciation, produce distinctive wines with character that are increasingly valued here and around the world. In addition to Albariño, Godello and Mencía, you may also hear about Treixadura, Brancellao, Merenzao, Torrontés, or Caíño, for example. Along the Rías Baixas Wine Route, you will enjoy wine tastings of the Denomination of Origin Rías Baixas.
